Apple to stop selling some iPhone models in Germany

American semiconductor and telecommunications giant Qualcomm has been granted a second injunction against Apple on December 20, 2018. The injunction has banned it from selling some of the iPhone models in Germany that use chips from Intel and parts from another supplier Qorvo. AT the same time, there has not been no clear reaction on the news in Apple’s stock price.

Apple in a statement has said that it is planning to appeal on the ruling. Judge Matthias Zigann, under this condition told the court earlier on December 20, 2018 that the ruling would not go in to immediate effect. But Apple has said that through the appeal process, iPhone 7 and the iPhone 8 models would not be sold in 15 of the retail stores in Germany. But the newest models like the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR will still be sold in the stores. The information was given out in a statement by Apple.

The statement added that all the iPhone models will be sold through carriers and other third party retailers in Germany. Qualcomm’s German case is the third major effort to secure a ban on the lucrative iPhones of Apple over the patent infringement allegations. A similar patent issue has been raised in the United States and in China. This will be the second big win for Qualcomm on seeking a ban on some of the iPhones with chips from Intel. The judge said that the Phones contain a combination of chips from Intel and the Apple supplier Qorvo and it violated one of the Qualcomm’s patents around the envelop tracking. It is a feature that helps mobile phones save battery power while sending and receiving wireless signals.

The spokesperson from Qualcomm was not immediately available for comment. Apple had tried to preempt a ban that was based on a different feature by altering its software in Germany.
