Some of the recent reports said that a few of the smartphone makers followed the suit of Apple and got rid of the headphone jack while Meizu has gone above that as well. Chinese consumer electronics company Meizu has announced a new phone known as Zero which does not have the headphone jack, the charging point or even a speaker grill. The surprising part is that it does not even come with a SIM card slot and the buttons that are usually seen on a phone.
The only things that disturb the surface of the all-display gadget with 7.8 mm thick ceramic unibody is the 12 MP and 20 MP rear cameras and two pinholes. One is a microphone and the other is for hard resets. In order to compensate for the ports, Meizu Zero will support Bluetooth 5.0 and a wireless USB connectivity that will reportedly be able to transfer files as fast as the USB 3.0 standard can. The device has a 5.99 inch QHD OLED screen that will also act as a sort of a giant speaker and an earpiece replacement.
The smartphone also has a big bezel for a 20 MP front camera but the fingerprint reader is surely on the screen. The device has been powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor and relies on an 18W wireless charging as it does not have a charging port. The Zero also does not have the usual physical buttons but has a pressure sensing ones with a haptic feedback on the borders.
Coming to the absence of the SIM slot, it is clear that the device will make use of the Embedded SIM or the eSIM technology. The company has said that the retail launch in China is tied to the local carrier’s progress with the eSIM so the availability of the device is likely to be limited at first.
