Apple had launched its Watch in 2015 and since then it has positioned it as a health and fitness device, something that helps the users to track their workouts and look after their body. However, the users had always complained about the absence of one particular feature from its built-in software which is sleep-tracking. Reports say that the company is currently testing the sleep tracking functionality and if it meets the standards, it plans to add it to the Apple Watch by 2020.
However, the users of Apple Watch can even now track their sleep on their devices with the help f third party apps, but the device has always laid back due to its relatively slim battery life. Apple has always promised its users a full day’s use from the Watch before charging it overnight and this can also be extended to two days use depending on the usage but that is not sufficient for regular sleep tracking.
On the other hand, there are other wearable devices on fitness that have sleep tracking function like the Fitbit Versa and Withings Steel Hybrid Smartwatch that can last up to weeks before they need a charge. Experts who have a close watch on the premium device by Apple, have opined that in order to make the sleep tracking feature a reality, the company will have to increase its battery life or find a way to run sleep tracking in low-power mode overnight. If that is not possible too, then even the charging speed can be increased and the users can be just asked to top up their batteries in the morning.
With the introduction of sleep tracking on the Apple Watch, the company would also increase its range of health tracking features which include taking electrocardiograms which has been added to the Apple Watch series 4, automatic workout detection which is added to Watch OS 5. Adding the sleep tracking feature would make the device more lucrative for the health conscious gadget enthusiasts.
