Google to shut down its Inbox email service on April 2

Search engine giant Google is all set to shut down its Inbox app on April 2, 2019. On the same day Google + will also be taken down. The tech giant had informed about the discontinuation of the services in an email late in 2018, but then it had not specified on when it would be axing. The search engine has started notifying the users that Inbox will be going away in 15 days from March 18, through a screen that pops up when they fire up the app.

The notification also has a link to open a Gmail app as an attempt to ensure that the current users continue to use Google products. Gmail for mobile already has a few features for the Inbox which are very useful like the Smart Reply, Smart Compose and Follow-ups. Moreover, the app recently had gone through an all-white redesign that made it look and feel more like Inbox.

However, the fans of the app will have to give up Inbox’s bundling and other features that have yet to have their way to Gmail until Google decides to bring them up. The notice that has been sent to the Inbox users has mentioned that it will be completely shut after 15 days from now. Apart from the Inbox App and Google+, the tech giant will also be pulling the plugs from other popular messaging services like the Google Allo and the Url Shortner tool this month. The services are being shut down as a part of the Spring clean up by the company.

An official statement from the company says, “Four years after launching Inbox in 2014, we’ve learned a lot about how to make email better – and we’ve taken popular Inbox experiences and added them in to Gmail to help more than a billion people get more done with their emails everyday.” The statement added that the company wishes to take a more focused approach that will help them to bring the best email experience to everyone.
