Social networking giant Facebook is all set to introduce in-app notifications in the Messenger that will help to warn people, who might connect to people who are impersonating someone else or are just trying to fool or scam them. Reports say that, if a user is talking to someone on the Messenger and out of nowhere they ask for money, then the application will tap on your shoulder with the help of some safety notices and pop ups that will suggest what the users have to do on order to avoid a potential fraud or scam.
The feature will be available for iOS and Android users. Moreover, even the users who are under the age of 18 will receive notifications if the other person, who is an adult begins a conversation that is not inappropriate. The new alert has been praised by the internet goers, especially the internet safety activists, that include Stephan Balkam, the CEO of Family Online Safety Institute.
Balkam said that it is important to use a language that empowers people to make decisions which are wise and think more critically. It is also important to know who they are having a conversation with online. The CEO added that this is particularly important as it is important to think about the safety of the younger users.
Jay Sullivan, the director of product management, Messenger Privacy and Safety in his official blog post wrote that they are investing in privacy preserving tools that will help to keep people safe with accessing the messaging content. The safety tips are developed with the help of machine learning and works with the help of behavioral signals. For instance, of an adult is sending plenty of friend requests or message requests to people who are under 18. This has also ensured that the new features will be available as well as effective when the Messenger has end-to-end encryption.
