Apple plans to replace chips by Intel with its own in Mac computers

Cupertino based giant Apple is all set to make a big decision and is preparing to replace its main processors in the Mac computers. The Mac computers had earlier used chips from Intel Corp. and the progress is expected to happen as early as this month at the annual developer conference. Apple is all set to host the WWDC during the week of June 22, 2020. It is expected to unveil the initiative that is code-named as Kalamata.

The event is expected to give the developers some time span before the new Macs begin to rollout in 2021. The hardware transition is still a few months away and the timing of the announcement could also change. People familiar with the matter revealed. The new chips that will be made by Apple, will be based on the same technology that was used in the iPhone and iPad chips. But still the Mac devices in future would continue to run on the macOS instead of the iOS software.

The news about Apple’s plans to give up on the Intel chips had surfaced earlier in 2020 and also in 2018. On June 9, 2020 it was noticed that the Apple shares went up less than 1 percent while the Intel was down less than 1 percent. Apple is using a tech that has been licensed from Arm LTD. It is a part of the Japan based tech conglomerate SoftBank Group Corp. The tech is completely different from the technology that is used in Intel Chips. This is also the reason, the developers have to be given time to balance their software for the new hardware.

Both Apple and Intel have declined to comment on the development. If things workout as reported, then it will be the first time in 36 years when the Mac devices will be powered by processors that will be designed by Apple. There are also reports that the tests of the new Macs with the new Arm-base chips are showing improvements.
