Amazon has made an important announcement that it is taking back support from its once popular Alexa device, the Dash Wand. The support from the shopping helper Dash Wand will be taken back as of July 21, 2020. Amazon has so far not mentioned about any reason as to why it is taking back support from the device but has instead encouraged the users to participate in the device recycle programe.
The e-commerce giant has not even mentioned about offering any alternative device to be given as compensation. The Wand was priced at $50 and came along with many promotions like a free Wand with an Amazon Fresh subscription and this is the reason a compensation device might be unlikely.
The Dash Wand is a hand-held device that worked on battery and had a barcode reader. The customers used the device to order more food by just scanning the containers of the existing containers. The device also worked as a voice assistant in parts of home as a fixed-in place Alexa speaker might not be able to hear the user. While Amazon has not mentioned a reason about taking back support, it seems pretty obvious and there are other obvious reasons.
One of the most relevant is that the Alexa-enabled speakers have become more affordable and common as well. The device is only useful, unless they need the power to have a barcode reader and an Echo Dot inside your kitchen which makes it worth a possession. If the users need some portability, they can have their smartphone and the Alexa app. The end of the support to the Dash Wand has also hinted that resources of Amazon are better spent on the devices that people use. Apart from the Dash Wand, the company also has other devices including the Dash Button, the Dash Replenishment Service and the Virtual Dash Buttons that worked in a similar way.
