Chinese based video sharing site TikTok has launched its first TV application known as More on TikTok on Amazon Fire TV devices on August 6, 2020. The new application by TikTok will have curated video playlists along with compilations from the actual mobile TikTok app. Information on the new app was given by Amazon spokesperson Delaney Simmons in an email to a lading daily and added that it will also include the interviews with the creators along with the content that runs just more than one minute of the mobile app by TikTok.
Nick Tran the head of global marketing for TikTok in an email to a leading daily said that they have been thinking of how it would be to adopt the streaming devices like Fire TV for connecting with the users. The email added that they have also been trying to figure out different ways to figure out how to offer a more dynamic experience to the users. Tran in his email added that bringing their content to TV is like a very natural next step.
TikTok is currently in experimental mode to observe how its mobile formats work with the TV screens . Another advantage is that it is a view-only channel and does not require any account information or any login credentials. Users will not be able to upload videos or exchange coins. It is going to be free to use and will not have any ads at the launch.
There are going to be two new categories on the TV app – In The Studio that will have interviews with the stars of the app and This Is TikTok that will be focusing the creators. Amazon noticed that there was a sharp increase in the usage of the Fire TV apps like MasterClass, Facebook Watch, Audible and others in the first six months of the year, mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic and many people were forced to stay indoors.
