Expired US license of Huawei to bring trouble for phone owners

It has been about a year since Huawei has been logger heads with the government of the United States. Since a year the Commerce Department has stopped providing the company temporary licenses that supports the customers. This is certainly not a good news especially if someone is using a Huawei phone. A leading daily recently confirmed that the exceptions had silently expired on August 13, 2020. This means that hereafter it is illegal for search engine giant Google and other software developers to be able to send updates to Huawei.

This also applies to the customers of Huawei. So if a person owns a P30 Pro or some other smartphone of Huawei with full services by Google, then they will not be able to get the Android 11 or other updates going forward. On the other hand a spokesperson from Google said that the temporary license was the key that helped to deliver the Android updates by official means. The smartphones that do not have the Google Services need to get updates so that Huawei can use the open source version of the operating system Android.

The P40 Pro and many other similar smartphones by Huawei are sold inside China. Originally, the temporary license was expected to help the rural telecom carriers phase out the Chinese networking equipment due to fear of surveillance. It had also allowed the consumer devices of Huawei a short lease on life by maintain its updates and keeping them secure. But now that the licenses have also been cancelled, there will not be any way to keep those devices updated. The users will not be left with much choice and will be forced to replace their smartphones if they are concerned about the software to be up to date.

This is a not very good time for the Chinese giant as the US imposes tougher trade restrictions as it does not have a way to make its high-end Kirin chips after September, 2020.
