Apple quietly acquires AR tech based startup

Not many were aware that Cupertino based company Apple had acquired an Israel based computer vision company between 2018 and 2019. The acquisition was done quietly and the iPhone giant has already started adapting its developments in the current products. The AR technology by Apple and its related developments started to pick up speed after the launch of ARKit in 2017. A few new reports have claimed that the developments might have been a result of secretive acquisitions instead of the internal research.

Reports say that the acquisition by Apple has helped it to improve the company’s work in compuer vision and AR. A newspaper based in Israel has claimed that the technology of the startup has already become an integral part of every Apple camera. The purchase price for the acquisition has not been disclosed , but some of the sources who are familiar with the development have claimed that the deal was worth tens of millions of dollars. During the time of acquisition, the startup had 13 people in Tel Aviv.

Out of the team, a majority of them joined the team of Apple in Herzliya. The startup was found in 2014 and had operated in very stealth mode. It raised less capital and the platforms of Camerai had allowed apps and developers to create AR along with image processing graphics without enough technical knowledge. Around 2018, the AR technology was buzzing and then Samsung and Alibaba had also approached the startup for acquisition.

Now that it has been adapted in Apple’s camera’s the technology of Camerai made it easier for the developers to add the AR capabilities to the applications. To specify it further, the AR technology of the company includes the ability to detect objects in the picture and outline them so they could be adjusted cosmetically. Apple is also working on wearables that could be integrated in the mixed reality environments.
