Google rolls out fix for SMS problems for Android

Some of the Android users are complaining that the SMS messaging service has stopped. It seems like Google has caught hand of the problem and is rolling out some changes that will fix the problem. The news was confirmed by Google who said that the fix to the problem is already underway. The search engine in a statement said that they have identified the problem and have also started rolling out the fix on December 10, 2020. The statement from Google added that if the users have disabled their automatic updates, then they recommend that they should update to the latest version of Carrier Services from Play Store, from where they will be able to receive the fix.

The problem has reportedly cropped up due to a recent update that was received by the Carrier Service app. The application’s description on the Play Store said that it allows the new communication services from the mobile carriers that includes battery optimization along with enhanced features in the Android messaging app. The application has so far been downloaded more than a million times.

On December 2, 2020 the version 50 of the app started to roll out and this was when the problem related to SMS started surfacing. Some of the phones that have been affected include from the giants like Samsung, Motorola and TCL. If any of the users are facing such issues, then uninstalling the app helps to fix the problem.

However, some of the people are facing new problems. Despite the fact that the search engine has addressed the issue, the update is downgrading the smartphones back to version 48 of the Carrier Services app. It was also noticed that many of the Carrier Service apps were reverted. Moreover, even the listing on Play Store has version 48 as the current version. This could also be a temporary arrangement till they find a fix for the actual recent version.
