Google shelves its Cardboard VR device

The Google Cardboard VR was the last surviving VR product, but that does not exists anymore now. The search engine has officially stopped selling its Cardboard VR viewer on Google Store. It was one of the most ambitious moves by the search engine but has been put to rest now. The company put a message on the Google Store that says that they are no longer selling the Google Cardboard on Google Store.

During the Google I/O 2015, the product had proved to be popular and had marked an entry point for VR. The device was actually a piece of cardboard that was shaped in to a VR headset and had plastic lenses. The search engine had also made a Cardboard app for the headset for Android and iOS. The app helps any high end smartphone to power the headset. It had a landscape display that was split in the right and left displays of the eyes.

The device also had a cardboard action button on the touch screen along with a capacitive pad. That would allow the users to aim the head and select options in a VR environment. The entire device only had cardboard and plastic lenses and not electronics. The search engine sold it for $20. Soon after the company became ambitious with its VR dreams and in 2016 it launched the new and improved version of the Google cardboard and was known as the Google Daydream VR headset.

This time it was plastic and cloth of a phone powered VR headset and had a few improvements with a head strap along with a small controller and was priced at $80. The next step that was taken by Google was for its software support. It then developed graphics pipeline movements in the core OS that helped to reduce the latency. It also started to certify the devices for an enhanced daydream support that laid out best hardware and software practices suitable for VR.
