After a long wait, the Super Nintendo World has been opened for the public on March 18, 2021. Children and adults were seen waiting in the line to get their turn to experience the theme park that has a huge life-sized Mushroom Kingdom. The theme park opened its gates on Thursday on Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Showing their excitement, a number of visitors were seen wearing the iconic red Mario hat.
Soon after the visitors entered the park, queues were seen to get pictures with Luigi, Mario, Prince Peach and Toad. Some of the visitors expressed that they became emotional as they walked in to the new park. Others said that they have been playing Nintendo games since their childhood and another said that Mario had raised him. The characters in the theme park are allowed to interact with the visitors but are not allowed to touch due to the coronavirus protocol. For now the characters cannot high-five or hug the characters, who can only speak in their video game-sounding voices.
On the other hand Disney parks are not allowing the characters photos due to the pandemic situation. Some of the COVID-19 restrictions include temperature checks at the entrance, compulsory wearing of masks, social distancing in the lines and hand sanitizers everywhere. There are also signs at the roller coasters which has requested the riders to refrain from screaming. This is not just for the Super Nintendo World, but also for the other group of Japanese theme parks who have asked the visitors to scream in their hearts.
Even the capacity has been kept limited to just 10,000 guests per day. Apart from the conventional rides, the theme park is equipped with games where the guests can compete against other visitors in the park. Just like the Mario game, the visitors can jump and punch the bricks and question marks and collect virtual coins.
