IMDb finally gets its own Android application

Not many know that IMDb is a subsidiary of Amazon and has now got its own Android TV application. The service was launched as a video streaming service in 2019 and was then called as IMDB Freedive. It was later named as IMDb TV that provides access to the entire catalogue and no paid subscription is essential. The Android app is a 42 MB download and needs a device that runs Android TV 5.0 or newer versions.

The IMDb TV apps was released in the month of March for PlayStation 4, LG Smart TVs, NVIDIA SHEILD and TiVo Stream 4K. So far the users had to launch the IMDb app so they could access the offerings on mobile. The launch of the standalone app will help the service to have a wider reach towards the potential viewers.

With the recent launch, there are indications that Amazon could be planning something big for IMDb TV. As per the reports in 2020, Amazon is looking forward to make the free service accessible to people on an international level. To begin with Mexico and the United Kingdom will be the first regions to have the access to the platform outside the United States. If things go as planned, then the service would also be launched to more European countries and Latin America.

Talking about free access, IMDb TV provides free access to some of the shows like How To Train Your Dragon, Chicago Fire, All in the Family, and World of Wall Street. Users can also have access to Amazon Originals that have been produced exclusively for the platform. It includes the crime drama Leverage: Redemption. It was just last month when it was announced that Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV have signed a licensing deal with Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. Under the agreement, the free streaming service will be able to have access to the TV-Window rights to Universal movies.
