Google launches new Nest cameras and doorbell at lower prices

Search engine giant Google has launched a fresh line of its home security cameras along with a video doorbell and are being launched for its Nest brand. The fresh line-up includes an indoor/outdoor camera, indoor only camera, a floodlight, a video doorbell. The fresh devices will be replacing the earlier Nest IQ cameras and Nest Hello doorbell. The new line-up will have a common design language and will also have an accessible price range. The good news is that every model is priced lower than the device that it is replacing and will also have more capabilities.

People who have seen the earlier Nest products would be able to recognize the new models as well as the features would be similar. The earlier products were launched just a couple of years back. The previous products included the Nest WiFi, Nest Thermostat and the Nest Audio smart speaker. Going by the fresh launch it seems like Google now has a liking for softer edges and mute color palettes. The mute color of the device makes sense as it would blend with the color of where it is placed and will not stand out.

The fresh devices are also smarter with the presence of on-device machine learning. It will be able to detect people, animals, vehicles and packages. Specific alerts will be sent out for each of them for cloud processing. The tech giant aims to cut the noise of the constant motion notifications which is a very common complaint that many of the owners of home security cameras and video doorbells.

The new gadgets also have the Tensor Processing Unit that helps to provide more reliable event alerts and detection. Google is also providing a range of accessories for wall and table mounting. The only thing that is missing is the 4K resolution but Google defended saying that 4K requires higher bandwidth consumption that can cost for a larger cloud storage.
