Google Meet to warn users about echo in their device

The coronavirus pandemic has forced a number of employees to work remotely as a safety measure. While a number of companies were planning to bring their employees back to the offices, the plan has been delayed due to the dangerously contagious Delta variant of COVID-19. Under such circumstances, the employees need to make sure that they have the best service for video calling. Despite the best efforts the echo problem on video calls is a common issue. But Google Meet is now working towards addressing this issue.

It is working towards controlling the audio and remove the problem. The search engine will be notifying the user when they are causing the echo and it will also be providing tips to avoid such glitches. The problem of echo arises when the system feeds back audio in to the call. When an obvious echo occurs, Google Meet will be notifying the user with the help of a red flag that will appear on the options button and a text notification. When the user taps on the flag, it opens the Troubleshooting & Help panel to Audio & Video devices.

It has to be noticed that majority of times, Meet will intelligently control the audio that will remove the echo. But in certain cases it will continue to happen and other users will be able to hear an echo from the source device when the user speaks. So far it was tough to predict why the device was causing an echo.

Google has recommended the users to use headphones, lower the speaker volume and muting themselves when they are not talking. The fresh feature will be enabled by default for all the users and will begin to rollout from August 23, 2021 and will have a complete rollout in the upcoming weeks. All the Google Workspace customers along with the G Suite Basic and Business users will be able to have the feature.
