Sony launches software update for PlayStation 5 including M.2 SSD support

The PlayStation 5 by Sony continues to be popular among the gamers. Many could get their hands on the console, while some continue to struggle to get one as the stocks continue to remain limited due to the component shortage issues. But gamers who already have one, have been waiting for the ability to expand the storage of their PlayStation 5s. The wait is over as the latest software upgrade is here with the M.2 SSD support and other features.

It was in the month of June when it was predicted that Sony was preparing to launch an update for its PS5 and it included the support for M.2 SSDs. The prediction was confirmed when Sony had released the update for the beta testers in the month of July, 2021. The new update has now been launched for all the users on September 15, 2021. So the gamers can now expand their console’s memory which could be as fast as its proprietary drive. People who wish to install a new SSD can do so with the guidance of a YouTube video posted on PlayStation channel. It is a 30 second video that has shown the simple technique.

The company has also updated its support site with more detailed videos. It has also listed the requirements on a how-to support page. The users can customize the Control Centre UI. Earlier the interface was static with only a set number of options. The new update also has 3D audio to built-in support speakers. So the players who are used to play games without the headphones can now enjoy 3D audio from their TV. The update has also given an optimization to deliver the best experience.
