Mobile phone museum to be launched in October

Mobile phones have become an inseparable part of our lives now. There was a time when the commodity itself was considered as ultra-luxury, but now it comes under different price tags. For those who would be fascinated about the evolution of the mobile phones a new platform is all set to be launched online. A mobile phone museum will soon be launched online in October, 2021 that will showcase the evolution of the device from the year 1984 to the present day.

The platform will have more than 2000 unique handsets from 200 different manufacturers. The project has been created by Ben Wood, the chief analyst at tech research firm CCS Insight along with the mobile phone industry veteran Matt Chatterly. After the success of the online museum, the pair is also planning to come up with pop-up physical exhibitions so the handsets could be brought to as many people as possible. The Mobile Phone Museum also has support from the telecom giant Vodafone through a five-year sponsorship deal.

When you hear about the year 1984, that would mean that it could feature some of the earliest mobile phones that were large and heavy unlike the recent ones which are sleek and light weighted and can be easily carried in the pockets. The display could also feature some of the latest foldable smartphones that have found space in the premium segment due to their price tags. These smartphones can be folded in half and feature some of the high end cameras for taking pictures and videos.

To make this museum a reality, Wood has been collecting mobile phones since more than 25 years and expressed that through the three decades the mobile phones have become a part of the society and have come a long way in terms of design. The museum is expected to begin later this year and the planners aim to make it as a rich learning source to inspire young people to create better mobile phones in future.
