People who were waiting for a foldable smartphone from Google could be in for some disappointment. Plans for a Google Pixel foldable smartphone have been dropped or delayed indefinitely. The reports about a foldable device from Pixel was holding a number of gadget enthusiasts, but a foldable device from Google might never happen in future.

Ross Young, who works at the Display Supply Chain Consultants, has suggested that Google has dropped the plans for the launch of a Pixel foldable. A Tweet by Young confirmed that a number of reports have said that they are not bringing out the Pixel fold to market in 2021 or in the first half of 2022. There are possibilities that the search engine is bringing a stop to the production till it is satisfied about a product that is competitive enough. In the current scenario, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the most popular foldable product from Samsung and Google believes that it is not yet prepared to come up with a product that is competent enough to face the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The Pixel Fold was also expected to have specifications that are similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 including the internal folding display that has a 120 Hz refresh rate. But it seems like it might have fallen short in a number of other ways. There were reports that the Pixel Fold was expected to have the same image sensors that are also found on the Pixel 5. This drawback could have affected the performance in the smartphone market that is already saturated. Moreover, the charm of a foldable smartphone can fade away when the camera is not as expected.

If not now, may be some day Google might come up with a plan to launch a foldable smartphone that is competent enough in front of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with the same price range.
