Motorola files patent with innovative wrap-around display for smartphone

Smartphone manufacturer, Motorola is once again ready to create an advanced and innovative technology with a smartphone. The idea of its focus came from a patent that has shown a wraparound screen display that is designed or a smartphone device. The patent has shown stretching around the sides and the edges of the handset. The concept seems to be new and unique that has not been attempted or seen before. With this it can be said that Motorola is working towards a model with flexible wrap-around screen technology.

There are two patents involved for the proposed Motorola device that was originally filed in June 2020. It had additional documents that were related to the arrangements of virtual buttons on one of more displays of an electronic device and were admitted in August 2021. The final approval and the publishing of the patents was done on December 23, 2021. As per the patent, the smartphone will be wrapped with a flexible screen and a single large display will cover the front, the back and both sides of the device and will also emit the need of the physical side buttons like the volume or other silencing buttons.

The SIM compartment of the device would be accessed from the bottom, which will also have the USB-C charging point, a microphone and a speaker. The top of the device will have an additional speaker, a mic and a power button. For now it is not clear as to where the company would position the cameras. With more screen surface, we can expect that the company would include more in-pocket features, virtual buttons, heat detection sensors and a stylus support.

The patent has also mentioned about the number of sensors for motion, temperature and gravity that will help to measure when the smartphone is in the pocket or a purse and how it will function when it will be removed from the pocket. The above details indicate that the upcoming device from Motorola would change the game for the company. But the fact also remains that not all smartphones on patet level turn in to actual commercial devices.
