Sony to resume production of PlayStation 4 amidst shortage of PlayStation 5

It seems like the PlayStation 4 has received some life expectancy as the shortages regarding the PlayStation 5 continues. Sony has reportedly reversed its decision to discontinue the console that might have had an impact on the games. It is already been pointed out that Sony does not intend to schedule any PlayStation 5 exclusive games in 2022. The situation might change as the months pass but it seems like Sony has realized that it is pointless to release too many exclusives when the PlayStation 5 itself is hard to get.

The shortages started as soon as the lockdowns across the globe had started to open up. The PS5 was launched in November 2020 but the stocks were limited at the beginning itself. Intel has predicted that the shortages is likely to continue at least till 2023. With that being constant, the company has decided not to discontinue its PlayStation 4. It has to be noticed that the previous generation console was never discontinued on an official basis. The gamers were not able to buy a new one for many months but the situation is expected to be changed in 2022. Sony has instructed its manufacturing partners to process the PlayStation 4 through this year.

However, not many consoles are expected to be made, but the company intends to rollout at least one million of the consoles through the year. The console will be sold cheaper and will be easily available and will be an alternative to the PS5. The PS4 needs components which are less advanced and would also be easier to make. But before that Sony will have to negotiate with the manufacturers in terms of priority.

Sony did confirm that it will resume the production of PS4 this year, but is also pretending that it never had any plans to stop it. Not many were aware that the console was nearly impossible to buy for majority of 2021.
