Apple launches support for driver’s license and state IDs on Wallet app

Cupertino based giant Apple has made an announcement that the Wallet app on the iPhone and Apple will now support state IDs and driver’s license. Arizona has become the first state in the United States to support the feature. Starting from March 23, 2022, Apple has said that the residents of Arizona will be able to add their driver’s license or the state IDs to the Wallet App. The users will be able to tap their Apple Watch or iPhone to securely present it at some of the selected TSA security checkpoints located at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The tech giant has also said that the feature can also be used at some of the TSA checkpoints in some of the other selected states but the travellers are advised to check TSA checkpoint signage to confirm about its availability. Apple has also assured that soon more states will also be able to add their licenses and state IDs to the Wallet app and the states include Ohio, Colorado, Hawaii and Mississippi. The company had earlier announced that the states like Utah, Iowa, Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland and Oklahoma would also have the feature.

Jennifer Bailey, the vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet said that they are focusing and working closely to introduce the feature to more states and make it available across the United States for the convenience of the residents. The feature is currently available for iPhone 8 or later that run on iOS 15.4 and was released for the public last week. It will also work on the Apple Series 4 or later that run on the Watch OS 8.4 or later version.

To enable it, the users will have to open the Wallet app and tap on the ‘+’ button on the top right corner of the screen and select Driver’s License or State ID. The users have to then follow the instructions to add them successfully.
