Social networking giant Facebook, on October 4, 2012 celebrated the billion member mark. With the recent achievement, Facebook continues to create a platform to engage people socially and make the world a smaller place so to speak.
Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and chief executive of the social network giant, announced that more than a seventh of the population of the planet resided virtually on Facebook and added that the accomplishment was humbling. Zukerberg said, “Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life”.
Eduardo Saverin, the estranged Facebook co-founder in his feed on the social network wrote, “Congrats to Mark and the entire Facebook team and especially to every Facebook user who built Facebook with every login, invitation, comment and feedback.” The social network also released its first promotional video to mark the milestone.
According to our sources, investors did voice some concern as well, as shares slid about 1.6% to $21.6 in after-market trading in the Nasdaq. Even analysts were concerned about whether Facebook could leverage the massive user base for advertising and other revenues, and still remain loyal to the aim of making it a service to connect the world.
