After a long wait, Microsoft has unveiled a suite of touch-friendly Office apps for Windows phone users. With the new apps, the users will now be able to work on Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents with the help of touch commands and can be transferred easily between the devices.
Microsoft has named the apps as Office Universal apps which are available for download immediately and the full versions are expected to be available by the end of April, 2015. Many of the Office users have waited for several months for the US software giant to introduce the apps. The software giant on the other hand has already released similar touch friendly apps for Apple’s iPad and iPhone and for the tablets that run on Android.
Microsoft explained that the popular devices have already dominated the lucrative market and represent a bigger market for its Office products than the Windows mobile devices. In terms of features, the basic functions are free of cost, but for the detailed editing features the users will have to purchase a subscription to Office 365 , which is Microsoft’s cloud-based version of Office.
Later in 2015, Microsoft is all set to release a new version of Office for desktop PCs and also a new version of Windows.
