Foldable smartphones are the next big thing in the smartphone market. While a couple of smartphone manufacturers have already showed off their respective devices, Huawei’s plans have also leaked before it brought it to the Mobile World Congress this weekend. The Huawei Mate X is the rumoured foldable smartphone which is expected to be unveiled soon.
The Barcelona venue already has a banner and has showcased the handset in its various states while also giving away the name. The image of the smartphone was posted by one of the Twitter users and has also shown that the device will pair of outward-facing screens which will open up a larger tablet-like display. The smartphone also has a pronounced ledge that allows the smaller portion of the display to be neatly tucked in.
So far it is not clear where the cameras are positioned but they might be housed on the either side of that ledge. The Mate X design proves to be a big competition to the offering by Samsung with the Galaxy Fold that was unveiled earlier this week at an Unpacked event. The Fold offers a single outer screen with the larger tablet hidden within the fold. Since the initial reveal, many questions have surfaced concerning the design choices of Samsung. The outer display which has a 4.6 inch screen is dramatically small and is surrounded by some of the thickest bezels that they have seen on a smartphone.
Moreover, the Galaxy Fold does not fold flat as there is a wide gap at the hinge. On the other hand, going by the leaked images of the Huawei Mate X, it seems like the company has managed to achieve a flat fold. The company will be hosting a press conference on February 24, 2019 when the Mate X will be unveiled officially and more details of the handset will also be released.
