Nintendo acknowledges breach of 160,000 accounts during weekend

Gaming giant Nintendo revealed that about 160,000 accounts were breached since the beginning of April, 2020. The accounts were used by hackers who were using others’ Nintendo Network IDs without permission. The company has made an announcement that the gamers will no longer need to use IDs to log in to the accounts. Nintendo has also assured that the passwords which have been compromised will also be reset. In the past month, many of the Nintendo gamers were taking their social media accounts and were complaining about the missing funds from their accounts.

Some of the gamers were also watching their funds being used for virtual currency by Fortune. The hackers were able to play other users games and were also able to see the date of birth of the individuals including the country, region and email addresses. Moreover, the hackers were also able to access the payment services that were linked to the accounts and it included PayPal accounts or credit cards that were used to buy items on the Nintendo platform.

Nintendo issues an apology that was originally written in Japanese and apologized to the customers and the related parties for the inconvenience caused due to the recent compromise. The company assured that in future it will make better efforts to take stringent security measures so that such incidences do not occur in the future. The Network ID of Nintendo has a username and password that belongs to the older  3DS and Wii U consoles. The newer Nintendo Switch users do not have to have a Network ID and can create an account with the help of an Email ID.

After the hack was noticed, the company urged users to check their history of transactions for any fraudulent or unauthorized transactions and could then request for a refund. The gaming giant has assured that the Credit card information has not been leaked.
