LG TVs to automatically enable Filmmaker Mode for Prime Video content

Filmmaker mode

The 2020 and 2021 4K and 8K TVs by LG will now be able to switch on the Filmmaker Mode automatically when the videos from the Amazon’s Prime Video will be played. The announcement was made by LG and the Filmmaker Mode was launched in 2019. For those who do not know much about the Filmmaker Mode, it is a way to switch off the picture processing features that can include image sharpening or motion smoothening. The feature helps to protect the authenticity of the filmmaker of the mode that it was shot in.

LG has said that the ability to automatically enable the Filmmaker Mode is the first in the industry and was first introduced during the CES 2020. It had then assured that it would be offering an API to the streaming apps that would enable the mode automatically. However, it can be noticed that it was earlier possible to enable the feature manually with the help of the TV Settings menu. Automatic switching can prove to be a convenient way if the user has the habit of switching between different content like watching a traditional film (where the Filmmaker Mode is enabled) and watching live sports.

LG has said that the switching process is automatic but the viewers will be shown a pop-up that will give them the option of confirming or declining the Filmmaker Mode when a compatible content is detected. It can also be noticed that the hassle of changing to different modes can be avoided if the TV manufacturers did not opt to have the features like motion smoothing by default.

But the press release by LG has mentioned that such motion smoothing features can be more useful for the viewers who are more in to watching live sports of a TV show. LG has said that the feature of automatic Filmmaker Mode will be rolled out to the compatible webOS 5 and webOS 6 TVs.
