Chinese smartphone manufacturing giant Huawei is one of the few early birds to enter the foldable smartphone market and has released a few of them in the past few years. The Mate X, Mate XS and the Mate X2 are some of the models that launched in the month of February, 2021. All the models that have been launched are similar to the Samsung foldables that fold vertically and become a size of a tablet when they are unfolded. Huawei has recently teased a new foldable phone that is similar to the Galaxy Flip and a fashion shoot with Harper’s Bazaar China has revealed what the device could look like.
The new model is called as the Huawei P50 Pocket and has been prominently featured with the China based actress and singer Guan Xiaotong. With reference to the pictures from Weibo, the device looks pretty large and has a circular external display that displays time and notifications and will also display what the user is capturing from the camera. The external display of the device is place right beside the camera and the fingerprint reader is located on the edges of the device. The version that is shown on the photo shoot of Harper’s Bazaar is gold that has a leafy pattern.
But the teaser by Hauwei has indicated that it will come in silver variant along with a diamond plaid pattern. The company is officially expected to unveil its P50 Pocket on December 23, 2021. The foldable market continues to remain unpredictable but Samsung continues to remain the dominant brand in the segment.
Huawei is known for its innovation and a new device from the company seems promising. The only drawback is that it could be powered by its own operating system instead of Android. It is still not clear if the device would be available in China alone or would be released in global markets as well.
