Apple TV customers may soon get the benefit of HBO Go on their television sets. According to reports in the media, the Home Box Office (HBO) network and the technology company are in negotiations currently to carry an online application which will offer the service to their customers.

With the new application, over 600 hours of television and films can be streamed to Apple TV. Currently, content for the device can be purchased on Netflix and iTunes, along with Hulu Plus programming. However, with the addition of the new service Apple will have its own pay-TV option for customers.

The iOS mobile platform already allows for the Go app to stream content on devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod. Gene Munster, who is an analyst with Piper Jaffray, speculated in a report from November 2012 that Cupertino will be building its own HDTV set. This television could cost USD 1,500 to USD 2,000 and could come with a screen that measures 42 inches to 55 inches.

The HBO pay-for-service application and Roku already stream content from HBO Go, whereas Apple is a late addition to the fold. This would however bolster Apple’s chances for mainstream television success.
