Snapchat Spectacles: How Do They Work and When Can You Get Them?

Snapchat has announced to unveil a Google Glass-GoPro hybrid pair of smart sunglasses. The Snapchat Spectacles are set to hit the market from October 2016. The sunglasses will be snap chatting first hardware product. The spectacles will feature a video recording mechanism, which will be capturing video in 10-second increments.

Snapchat Spectacles have an advanced performance camera. This camera will record wide-angle videos and save them to Snapchat Memories. The lens has a coverage field of about 115 degrees, which equates to the coverage of how humans see. There is an ideal ‘’circular’’ format that brings the reality of a real human eye view.

The videos encoding is in both portrait and landscape modes. Retailing at $130, Snapchat Spectacles will be available in 3 colors: coral, black and teal.

How Can You Get the Snapchat Spectacles?

CEO Evan Spiegel said the Snapchat Spectacles would be available this autumn. Snapchat Inc promised a slow approach in its production and declared they would only assemble some limited pieces.

After the announcement of the release, interested persons can purchase the Snapchat Spectacles at Snap Inc website. The Spectacles are expected to release sometime in October 2016.

Here’s How You Can Use the Snapchat Spectacles

Snapchat Spectacles have a button placed on the top left-hand corner. To record a video, one should tap once on the button. One tap will record a 10second video. If you want another video, you can touch again. To record a longer video playback, tap the button repeatedly. Time will increase by 10seconds on each tap.

During recording, there is an inward facing LED light that alerts the user in record time. There is also an outward facing LED that alerts parties in the field of view in front of the camera. The longest recording time is up to 30 seconds.

So What is Snap?

Snapchat is now Snap Inc.

Snapchat announced that its company would now be known as Snap. It also described Snap as a “camera company” rather than a mobile app developer.

In a blog post, Evan Spiegel, Snapchat’s CEO and cofounder, said Snapchat is evolving into Snap because Snap offers more than just Snapchat (ie, Snapchat Spectacles), and it wanted to better distinguish product information from company information.

In other words, Snapchat the mobile app will remain Snapchat, while Snapchat the company will be called Snap going forward.
