Online bullying has been a problem since a long time and a number of people especially youngsters have fallen prey to this a number of times. Video sharing site YouTube is taking measures to deal with this problem and would also be addressing the problem of hate speech and the culture of writing nasty comments. YouTube has brought forward a new that will remind the users to keep the comments respectful. This means that the company has set an automated system that helps to detect a comment that it seems as offensive.

The change will be seen rolling out on Android and will slowly move to other platforms as well, but it is not clear when. The feature is not new and is similar to what is seen on Instagram and was recently introduced. So before a user posts a comment a pop-up will appear that will remind “keep comments respectful”. This will prompt a user who is about to post an offensive comment and there are possibilities that the comment could be edited.

At the same time, the company has also noted that seeing a reminder does not mean that the comment has violated its rules or that it would be eventually removed. The update is an effort by YouTube to address the problem of hate speech and make the platform more approachable for the creators. Apart from the new pop-ups, the video sharing site will also be testing a feature for its YouTube Studio that will automatically filter out the inappropriate or hurtful comments. This will make it easier for the creators of the video to avoid reading such comments.

The problem of hate speech has increased a lot in recent times and has a number of times affected the creators mentally. Many people do this anonymously or intentionally to spread negativity and hatred. Efforts by such companies allow such people to stop and think twice before they actually take the step.
