Since a long time reports have been doing the rounds about a mixed reality headset by Apple that would weigh less than 150 grams. This would means that the device would be much lighter when compared to other headsets in the market. The light weight clearly means that it would be much convenient to be worn for a longer period of time.
Moreover, the weight of 150 grams would also make it lighter than the Oculus Quest 2 that weighs 503 grams. The market also has HoloLens by Microsoft that weighs 645 grams and Valve Index that weighs 809 grams. There is more as the device would also be lighter than the Daydream View by Google which is a fabric VR Headset that has been designed to hold the phone that weighs 220 grams. There are also chances that the headset could also be lighter than the iPhone as the standard iPhone weights nearly 164 grams.
The new headset by Apple surely seems interesting and attractive, but it could be a while when people will be able to try it out for themselves. A report was released in January, 2021 that mentioned that the new device which will have augmented reality as well as virtual reality will not be launched until at least 2022. Then there was a report in February 2021 that said that the device could be launched as early as in 2021. That report also had an image that had shown a drawing that showed a headset that has a mesh fabric in the front and the Apple Watch like bands on the back. This could be the reason why the device could be so light.
The new headset has been codenamed as N301 and it might also have 8K displays with eye-tracking technology and several cameras that will track the hand movements and will also capture footage that can be displayed inside the headset.
