Samsung unveils Galaxy S10 5G phone

Samsung

South Korean giant Samsung announced its first ever 5G smartphone, the Galaxy S10 5G smartphone on February 20, 2019. The S10 5G has become the first device that will be able to run on the uber-fast 5G wireless networks. The device will be made available in the second quarter for the Verizon customers but the price of the smartphone is yet to be known.

The Galaxy S10 will be available for other wireless carriers later this summer. The phone is a major step in the rollout of the 5G, but the network itself has not yet been widespread enough to revolutionize the mobile connections. Ben Wood, the director of Research at market data firm CCS Insights while talking to a leading daily said, “A 5G phone is strategically important for Samsung, particularly in markets where 5G is being rolled out first such as the US, South Korea and China”.

Samsung has got a big advantage over Apple , as it is not expected to have a 5G iPhone until the final quarter of 2020. Meanwhile, a number of other smartphone manufacturers are working hard in terms of introducing 5G devices. Many other developments are also seen which includes fixing wireless 5G that works in homes similar to broadband internet and 5G wireless hotspots that converts airwaves in to Wi Fi.

At the same time there is yet to be a phone available to the US customers that can operate independently on 5G. The transition from 4G to 5G networks is not expected to be widespread until 2020 as it involved upgradation of infrastructure that costs billions of dollars. Some of the experts have argued that Samsung’s 5G device is an important part of the 5G evolution as it will help the carriers test their services. It will also help to layout the groundwork for future generations of 5G handsets. At present 5G is available in a handful of cities in the US from different carriers.
