All the Android phone users in Britain are being warned about the a fraud that is circulating fast on the mobile phones. In a recent fraud, the users are being sent a link to tracking apps for some of the big delivery companies like DHL. But those links then redirect the users to a fraudulent app. A leading daily has reported that the links redirect the users towards the fraudulent app that managed to access the user’s contact and private details.
The fraudulent app in question is known as Flubot and has the ability to take over devices and will spy on the phones while accessing all the private details like bank details and more. It can also get in to the contact list and thus allows the scam to widen its reach. Telecom giant Vodafone has said that millions of messages are already being sent across the networks. A spokesperson from the telecom giant said that the current Flubot fraud’s attacks by SMS might soon take a serious turn and this is something that people need to be aware of and need to be careful.
The company has advised that people who have already installed the app will have to reset their device to factory settings. The customers need to be careful and vigilant with this particular malware and they need to be very careful before they click on a link in a text message. Some other telecom services like Three and EE also issued warnings. Even the National Cyber Security Centre has issued a warning to the Android users to be careful before they click on some of the unsolicited links.
One version of the scam is it looks like a text message from DHL and has a link to a website towards parcel tracking. People who click on the link will be explained how to install the app that is meant to track their parcel.
