Services of Google across the globe suffered a major outage for about an hour on December 14, 2020. Users of the services like Google Contacts, Drive, Gmail, YouTube and Docs across the globe complained that they were not working at all. Some of the users said that they were not able to login while some said that they were not working at all. The outage so far has been reported from the United States, Europe, India and other countries.

It has been noted that for some, services like YouTube were working fine if they were opened in incognito mode. For YouTube, it has been yet another outage as it was just last month when the video streaming service had faced an outage. Real time information provider of websites, DownDetector has said that it was the service of YouTube that was affected the most with more than 24,000 cases that were reported as of 5:42 pm IST.

Nearly 11,000 cases have been reported of Gmail. Even Google Drive and Google website has shown reports of more than 400 and 15,000 cases. The outage lasted for about an hour and the latest update has mentioned that YouTube is back completely. The team at the video streaming site Tweeted, “We’re back up and running! ” When the users had tried to open YouTube, the page just said, ‘something went wrong’. The video streaming site was quick to acknowledge that something was wrong and assured that it is looking in to it.

Meanwhile the outage status was also confirmed by the Google Workspace Status Dashboard that mentioned that most of the apps of Google were facing problems. The services that faced issues include Sheets, Meet, Voice and Calendar. For now, the team is working hard behind the outage and the services are being rolled out slowly and steadily. The service of YouTube has been restores for many but not for all.
